The Help

You might have heard of this little book called
The Help

Well if you haven't read or even heard of it,
you might be living under a rock!
(just sayin ;)

It is the best book I have read in a while.

Of course there are some parts that I would have loved for the author to elaborate on
or for there to be a sequel so we can keep following these women's lives!

It takes place in the early 60's,
smack dab in Jackson, Mississippi
during the Civil Rights movement.

It was so difficult to wrap my mind around
how people were treated
just based on the color of their skin.
These families would allow their maids
to care for their children and practically raise them,
but they were not aloud to use the bathroom
in their home!!
Crazy right?!

Well, after I read the book
I could no get to the theater fast enough
to see how they had brought the book to the big screen!
Luckily, I was able to get my hands on tickets
to a sneak preview,
two weeks before the movie was set to be in theaters!!

So I grabbed one of my awesome girlfriends
and made it a date!
She read the book too
and was about as excited as I was :)

We settled in with our popcorn and soda
and didn't take our eyes off the screen
for the almost 3 hours!

Yes, it was long, but I wanted it to be longer :(

They did such a fantastic job with the movie,
changing a few things for the better!
My only complaint,
was that if you didn't read the book,
it was more difficult to really understand
the depth of the relationships between the women.

I am hoping to see more great book
from Kathryn Stockett in the future

Happy Chaos

I was a BIG fan of
Punky Brewster
(Soleil Moon Frye)
as a kid!

Now she is all grown up
with kids like us :)

She just wrote this book Happy Chaos
and I can't wait to read it
and see what insight she has
to embracing the chaos of having small kids
and living through it happily!

I picked up my copy,
be sure to get yours and tell me what you think!

Something Borrowed

The book was a traditional chicklit!
Very cutesy and funny in parts, nothing over the top!
Although there was one pretty big surprise in the end ;)
I did my best to steer clear of the movie trailers
until I developed how I thought the characters looked,
but halfway through the book I saw the trailer
and I have to admit,
the characters they picked to play
Dex, Rachel and Darcy
were pretty darn close to how I pictured them!

There were a few subtle changes they made in the movie,
they replaced Rachel's coworker/friend
with her good friend Ethan,
who in the book lives in London.
I personally preferred that
because Ethan's character was hilarious!

It doesn't seem like this movie got the best reviews
(like most dramatic comedies)
and might be making an exit from the theaters
after this week,
but I was happy to see if and get a few laughs :)
I think it makes one of those great
curl up on a couch with your girl friends
or a date night in with the hubs (when it's your pick ;)
so if you didn't get a chance to see it in the theater,
make sure to Redbox it or get it on Netflix
when it makes it's DVD/Blu-Ray debut!

The perfume contains notes of coconut,
muguet(a.k.a. lily of the valley),
ylang ylang, amber wood and jasmine,
and retails for $140 for 50mL!

All I have to say is
FANTASTIC!!
If you haven't had time to read the book,
no worries,
this movie is SPOT ON!!
They did and AMAZING job of captivating the book!

Best book to movie I have seen to date!!

I know some of you Twilight fans might have a hard time
seeing Robert Pattison playing someone other than the beautiful Edward,
but he is a TERRIFIC Jacob as well ;)
I thought it was funny that he plays a "Jacob" in this movie!
He has such a rugged, manly look to him in this movie
that it doesn't make you compare the two character's one bit :)

Reese Witherspoon as Marlena was PERFECT!
She has grace and sophistication like no other actress,
I really love her!

The two had GREAT chemistry and made the love story believable!!

Go see "The most SPECTACULAR show on Earth" today!!
