You might have heard of this little book called
Well if you haven't read or even heard of it,
you might be living under a rock!
(just sayin ;)
It is the best book I have read in a while.
Of course there are some parts that I would have loved for the author to elaborate on
or for there to be a sequel so we can keep following these women's lives!
It takes place in the early 60's,
smack dab in Jackson, Mississippi
during the Civil Rights movement.
It was so difficult to wrap my mind around
how people were treated
just based on the color of their skin.
just based on the color of their skin.
These families would allow their maids
to care for their children and practically raise them,
but they were not aloud to use the bathroom
in their home!!
in their home!!
Crazy right?!
Well, after I read the book
I could no get to the theater fast enough
to see how they had brought the book to the big screen!
Luckily, I was able to get my hands on tickets
to a sneak preview,
to a sneak preview,
two weeks before the movie was set to be in theaters!!
So I grabbed one of my awesome girlfriends
and made it a date!
and made it a date!
She read the book too
and was about as excited as I was :)
and was about as excited as I was :)
We settled in with our popcorn and soda
and didn't take our eyes off the screen
for the almost 3 hours!
for the almost 3 hours!
Yes, it was long, but I wanted it to be longer :(
They did such a fantastic job with the movie,
changing a few things for the better!
My only complaint,
was that if you didn't read the book,
was that if you didn't read the book,
it was more difficult to really understand
the depth of the relationships between the women.
I am hoping to see more great book
from Kathryn Stockett in the future
